Visiting Korea for the first time?
Here are some pro tips...
From the airport
You're adventure in Korea will officially begin once you've made it past boarder control and baggage claim. Incheon Airport is roughly a 45 minute drive from Seoul so here are some pointers for figuring out transportation to your lodgings:
- Get an ice coffee because you're probably tired and it's hot as balls.
- Find a lady in a yellow blazer. These young women will speak english and can direct you towards someone who can get you to your destination. Best options are taking the bus or a cab.
- Cab is a safe bet. It'll set you back about ₩50,000-70,000, or about $50-70USD (£30-40 if you're into that)
- Taking the bus is the more thrifty option, costing about ₩10,000-15,000 per person, or about $10-15USD (£7-11). You'll need to keep an eye on the stops though and ring the bell when you want the bus to stop.
- Sim cards – they can be found at most GS25s (similar to 7-eleven) and 2GB pay-as-you-go can be purchased for ₩30,000 with minimal pointing and gesturing (the Korean word for Sim card is "Shim carduh")
Places to go and/or stuff your face
We made a lil map of some places Yoon and G like to go in the city. Or more accurately, where our friend Gin has taken us. But there are many other places that you should def check out which may not be included here. We've tried to include up to date photos of locations to help you find them when you're on the streetz.
Have fun getting lost!
Some helpful apps
Kakao Talk
This is the Korean equivalent of What's App but way more prevalent in Asia and wayyyy cuter. This is the quickest way to get Yoon or G's attention. Guaranteed any friends you make out here will have it.
Kakao Taxi
Uber is banned in Korea, this is the alternative. Copy and paste an address in from google into the app and a real cab will come get you and take you to said address. You still pay at the end of the cab ride tho just like old times.
Google maps + pen & paper
If you don't have access to a map application, maybe you wanna stay on the farm for this one. Don't relay on google street view tho, Seoul is in the future moreso than google and the buildings are constantly changing.
